Forces
of Nature is a playful yet thought-provoking look at mankind's
interaction with nature. A simple planting scheme of birch
trees and lush groundcover plants and a woven willow figure
are used to evoke an ambiguous relationship of both
exploitation and co-operation. Through our tenacity and
ingenuity, our interactions with nature are ever more
forceful, even destructive; whilst at the same time we
depend on the natural environment and are capable of
nurturing and protecting it. Ultimately, though, mankind is
perhaps more vulnerable, our existence more precarious than
we care to admit, and our presence may be a mere footnote in
time. For now, though, we continue to stake our claim to the
Earth. Guy Petheram Garden Design would like to thank
Barcham Trees and Alison Walling (Lincoln Willow) for their
support. |
