This
garden aims to raise awareness of overactive bladder (OAB),
a condition that affects nearly one in five people in the UK
aged over 40. OAB is a sudden and compelling need to relieve
the bladder, which is difficult to put off. It can be
associated with the frequent need to go to the toilet during
the night or day, and may result in incontinence. It is not
an inevitable part of ageing, and people who are
experiencing symptoms can seek help from a healthcare
professional. As an echo of the frustration and urgency of
OAB, a long and winding path inset with glittering glass
tiles leads to a giant pink tap that appears to be magically
suspended in mid-air. A straight path out of the garden
symbolises taking action to help alleviate the condition.
The paths lead through soft and spiky textured planting,
where vivid shades of pink are highlighted by muted tones of
blue and silver. |
