| 2012 is an exciting year for the flower show with The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the build-up to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show centenary in 2013. This year, the show will feature some of the finest designers including Andy Sturgeon designing for M&G Investments, Cleve West for Brewin Dolphin and Joe Swift for
Homebase. The spectacular Great Pavilion will be filled with displays of perfect plants and flowers displayed by some of the best growers from the UK and around the world. |

|
| New for 2012 is Fresh, a category which challenges designers to come up with cutting-edge gardens that are experimental and less conventional in design than traditional Chelsea Flower Show gardens. Designers in this category will be under fewer constraints than in other garden categories, which means Fresh is sure to become an unmissable part of the show this year. |
| Also new for 2012 is RHS Environment, which replaces Continuous Learning and supports the RHS commitment to improving the environment through gardening. Exhibits in RHS Environment will centre round the subject of urban greening and will be of scientific or educational interest. Themes will include community, water management and harnessing the power of plants to help reduce energy usage and heating costs. |
| The Artisan Garden category, which was introduced in 2011, returns for a second year with designers making the most of natural, sustainably resourced materials and using traditional craftsmanship to create stylish designs. |
| In addition, the RHS Chelsea Flower Show boasts displays of floral design from some of the UK’s best florists and floral arrangers as well as scientific and educational displays. Throughout the show, RHS experts are on hand to answer any gardening questions. |
| As well as representing the pinnacle of horticultural excellence, the RHS Chelsea Flower Show is a great day out. A host of restaurants, bars and cafés provide the perfect place to sit, relax and enjoy refreshment in one of the most extraordinary venues around. |
| There are also plenty of shopping opportunities, with some of the newest and most innovative gardening products, not to mention a wide range of beautiful accessories to decorate any garden, large or small. |

Thomas
Hoblyn to bring an Italianate garden to RHS Chelsea Flower
Show 2012 for Arthritis Research UK
Award-winning landscape and garden designer Tom Hoblyn will return to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2012 to stage one of the major show gardens for leading research charity Arthritis Research UK.
For his fifth year at RHS Chelsea, Hoblyn will create a garden inspired by the great Renaissance gardens of Italy, capturing the drama, formality and beauty of these historic gardens, whilst indulging his passion for creative planting.
Hoblyn
said: “I have long harboured an obsession for the Italian
Renaissance gardens – the fascinating theory of
controlling nature, the divine proportions and perfect
symmetry, majestically portrayed against decadent
architecture, truly captures my imagination”.
Inspired by the stunning gardens at Villa Lante and Villa d’Este the Arthritis Research UK Garden will use water as a central theme incorporating three spectacular water features set amongst formal Mediterranean planting celebrating the popular style of the period.
This will be the first time Arthritis Research UK, the charity leading the fight against arthritis, will be involved with RHS Chelsea. Chief executive Dr. Liam O’Toole said: “We are thrilled that we will be showcasing a garden at RHS Chelsea for the first time and as we mark our 75th anniversary we believe now, more than ever, how important it is for us to promote our work in highlighting the negative impact of arthritis. The charity has never proactively promoted itself before and, as a result, awareness of arthritis is much lower than it should be, despite affecting 1 in 6 people in the UK.
“We know that gardening is a favourite activity of many of our supporters and of people with arthritis and the Renaissance theme of the charity reflects so much about the organisation from the quest for knowledge in our research, to the ‘rebirth’ of the charity with a new brand and future goals.”
Thomas Hoblyn said: “I was genuinely thrilled to be asked to design a Chelsea show garden by Arthritis Research UK; they gave me such a fantastic brief that allowed me to satiate my love of all things Italian.”

| 'A Monaco Garden'
at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2011. Designed by: Sarah Eberle. Sponsored by: Principality of Monaco.
This garden illustrates the interaction between architecture and landscape that characterises Monaco's spectacular scenery. Monaco is a Mediterranean principality, highly populated, rich in character and supportive of the arts and the environment. The garden shows how landscape and architecture can interact to provide sustainable solutions to support high density living, including the use of vertical green walls and planted roofs. The rear portion of the garden contains a structure of varying heights that represents a section of a high rise building. This area leads to a courtyard with access to a small balcony above a cantilevered planted roof, providing an area that is protected from the sun’s rays. |
