|
|
|
A genus of hardy to frost hardy tender deciduous or evergreen
shrubs, trees and some perennials from which have been
developed a vast number of hybrids and cultivars valued for
their distinctive and varied flowers which may be single,
semi-double or double. |
|
|
|
|
|

|
| Much used for summer bedding, containers and hanging baskets.
|
| There are
thousands of different types of fuchsia, having been bred
from a handful of wild species found in Mexico, the West
Indies and New Zealand |
| Colours vary
from pinks, purples, whites and reds to sober and flashy
multicoloured mixtures (true yellow is still elusive).
Several (for example Fuchsia magellanica) can
even be grown as hedges. |
| They basically
divide into the hardy ones that can be left outside all
year, the bushy or upright tender kind for pots, and the
dangling, trailing ones for hanging baskets. All flowers
have three parts: the upper tube; the sepals beneath that
often point out like wings (they look like petals but
aren't); and the corolla (the real petals), the skirt-like
growth underneath the sepals. Each can be differently
coloured in some varieties. |

Climbing
Fuchsia 'Lady
Boothby' |
| This IS the
World's only climbing fuchsia! Lady Boothby was bred from
an original Brazilian species in 1939 and named after the
founder of the British Fuchsia Society. Bright two-tone
flowers adorn its red stems that stop at nothing when it
comes to climbing! Provide a little support and it'll
clothe trellis, arches wall and fences in no time at all.
Apart from being extremely vigorous it's also
exceptionally hardy, so you can look forward to repeat
performances from Fuchsia Lady Boothby year after year. |
