maturing to dark green. The monkey puzzle tree is best
planted as a specimen or in a small group since it
doesn't associate well with other hardy trees. Once

making it only really suitable for a large garden or
park. |
| In
1990, the Ministerio de Agricultura declared Araucaria

| Very
tolerant of coastal exposure, trees can be grown
as part of a shelterbelt, though they are very
slow growing and have an open canopy and so do not
give a lot of shelter. |

Araucaria Araucana - Monkey Puzzle Tree |
| Native
to Chile and Argentina, Araucaria Araucana is the
hardiest species in the conifer genus and an example of
a living fossil. Considered as the national tree of
Chile, the Monkey Puzzle Tree was named when a mature
specimen was observed and it was said at the time that
it would 'puzzle a monkey to try and climb it'. The
Chilean Pine is slow growing when very young, but our
plants are supplied at sizes ready to grow and thrive in
your garden. |
