| Phlox is a large genus of plants
containing species of perennial and annual, erect, mat-forming
plants or
shrubs that can be evergreen or herbaceous. Flower colours vary from
cultivar to cultivar as do the flowering periods therefore making it
possible to keep your garden looking luscious from spring to autumn
with different varieties of the same plant. Phlox are the plant of
choice for amateur and experienced gardeners alike, they provide not
only that much needed burst of colour in the garden but also a
delicious evening aroma that is simply tantalising. Phlox make
wonderful border and container plants and will thrive in full sun or
partial shade in moist soil. They are available in taller and
shorter varieties allowing you to build height in your borders,
taller varieties will require staking to keep them upright. |
| Sow direct from seed after the last
frost or indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost, if planting phlox
or transferring into the garden maintain a spacing of at least
7-10" apart as they do not like to be crowded. Regular watering
and mulching will encourage growth as will pinching back tall stems
and dead heading any flowers that are spent. |
