| Pieris is a genus
of the Ericaceae family and is commonly referred to as
Lily-of-the-valley, it is a hardy, bushy shrub native to the
mountain regions of eastern North America and Cuba and eastern
and southern Asia. |

|
| The colours and sizes of Pieris vary
depending on the species however they all thrive in acidic
soil and will produce colourful foliage when young that turns
dark green and leathery once mature. Pieris will grow in full
sun and partial shade in acidic soil or sand that is moist but
well drained. |
| If the soil conditions in your area do not meet
these specifications Pieris will do just as well in pots and
containers that have been filled with lime-free ericaceous
compost and due to their compact size they are the perfect
choice for gardens with limited space. Ensure to keep the soil
moist and prune only as required as excessive pruning can
cause damage, prune as soon as the plant has stopped
flowering. |
