Yucca's
Yuccas for the garden.....................
'Yucca filamentosa' 'Yucca filamentosa'
Adam's Needle
Towering spikes of white, bell-shaped flowers in July and August above clumps of stiff, dark green, lance-shaped leaves. Adam's needle makes an excellent focal point for a sunny, well-drained Mediterranean-style garden. A gravel mulch accentuates the architectural foliage and helps to protect the crown of the plant from frost-damage.
Position: full sun
Soil: any well-drained soil
Rate of growth: average
Flowering period: July and August
Flower colour: white
Other features: the leaves have sharp tips and serrated edges
Hardiness: fully hardy
Garden care: During the growing season water well, applying a balanced liquid fertiliser each month Remove the faded flower-spikes at the end of the season.
'Yucca filamentosa Bright Edge' 'Yucca filamentosa Bright Edge'
Adam's Needle
Tall spikes of white, bell-shaped flowers in July and August and stiff, dark green, lance-shaped leaves with broad, yellow margins. This handsome, variegated Adam's needle makes a great focal point for a sunny, well-drained border. In frost-prone areas it's important to protect the crown of the plant with a dry, winter mulch.
Position: full sun
Soil: any well-drained soil
Rate of growth: average
Flowering period: July and August
Flower colour: white
Other features: the leaves have sharp tips and serrated edges
Hardiness: fully hardy

'Yucca filamentosa v Color Guard' (Variegated Yucca)

'Yucca filamentosa v Colour Guard' (Variegated Yucca)

Adam's Needle
This easy-to-grow yucca is one of our favorites with bright yellow foliage with a dark green edge. Older foliage has a weeping habit, and the leaf colouration is at its brightest in Spring, Autumn, and Winter. Drought resistent, this also has a most tropical look and is a striking accent plant.
In late spring clumps of the plant are topped with tall stalks of fragrant, white, bell-shaped flowers. Supplied in approx 2-3Litre containers.
Position: full sun
Hardiness: fully hardy
Flowering period: July and August
Garden care: During the growing season water well, applying a balanced liquid fertiliser each month. Remove the faded flower-spikes at the end of the season
'Yucca gloriosa Variegata'

'Yucca gloriosa Variegata'

Spanish Dagger
A beautiful architectural plant which looks too good to survive frost but it is fully hardy. Looks excellent in a pot for the patio. Grow in dry, well drained soil in full sun. Avoid excessively wet conditions in winter. Supplied as a strong, hardy plant, currently in an approx 3 litre pot. Height around 30 - 40cms, width 60cms. A typical plant as supplied is pictured.
Position: full sun to part shade
Flower colour: white
Soil: any well-drained soil
Garden care: During the growing season water well, applying a balanced liquid fertiliser each month. Remove the faded flower-spikes at the end of the season. Avoid excessively wet conditions in winter.

Yuccas for the house or conservatory.....................

'Yucca elephantipes' 'Yucca elephantipes'
Spineless Yucca
A popular houseplant with several sparsely branched trunks and leathery, lance-shaped, mid-green leaves. This giant or 'spineless yucca' is a fine specimen for the hallway or a large room, and does need a deep, well-drained container. It can be put outside in the summer but will need an unheated, well-lit spot in winter.
Position: provide as much as light as possible
Soil: loam-based or peat-based potting compost
Water: water regularly from spring to autumn, then sparingly in winter
Humidity: misting isn't necessary
General care: repot every two years in spring. For best results use tomato feed in summer.
