Monty Don is one
of the UK's most respected gardeners and garden writers. |
| Monty is also a
prolific journalist and has been the gardening correspondent
for the Observer since 1994. He has presented several
TV gardening programmes including Real Gardens, Lost
Gardens and three years of RHS shows. |
|
Monty has always
been at the forefront of debate on the environment and from
1994 he presented two series for the BBC on environmental
issues. He is passionately committed to organic gardening as
part of a sustainable lifestyle and greater environmental
awareness.
|
|
In Herefordshire, where he has created an
organic 2-acre plot, Monty outs his principles into action,
growing healthy food for his family, re-using and recycling
resources, and avoiding all chemical treatments.
|
|
Monty
received no formal training as a gardener. In
his own words "I was – am – an
amateur gardener and a professional writer. My
only authority came from a lifetime of
gardening and a passion amounting to an
obsession for my own garden."
|
|
Monty
took over the role from Alan Titchmarsh in
2003 to be the new presenter of 'Gardeners
World'. Sadly He had to give up his role in
2008 after suffering from health problems. Monty's
also presented the fascinating series Around
the World in 80 Gardens which was shown on
BBC 2 in 2008.
