Tommy runs his own small building
business in Hackney, East London. It specialises in hard
landscaping - the part of garden creation that doesn't involve
planting.
|
|
Tommy left school to
work with his father, manufacturing garden products and hard
landscaping. He met the executive producer of Ground Force
while engaged in building work on her house. She asked his
opinion on various pilots and was so impressed by his
knowledge that she invited him to screen test with another
unknown named Charlie Dimmock, and they both joined the Ground
Force team.

|
Although Alan Titchmarsh
and Charlie complain that Tommy is too perky in the early mornings,
they both realize that without his hard work setting out the basic
structure of the garden in record time their Ground Force projects
would come to an untimely end.
|
|
"Tommy is like my cheeky
older brother," says Charlie. "In the first series,
we used to squabble so much the crew thought we must be
married!"
|
|
Alan
says: "What I admire about Tommy is that he
never says 'I can't do that'. Whatever our plan for
a garden, he will invariably make it better - plus
he has a superhuman capacity to put up with my
nagging!"

|
His
book Ground Force Practical Garden Projects covers
the general rules and principles that can be applied
to any gardening projects.
