Whilst 'growing your own' is the hot topic at the moment a lot can
be said for growing plants simply for growing them. In the UK we
cannot hope to produce bananas but does that mean we shouldn't have
the plants in our gardens? Banana plants are big, luscious and a
must have for any exotic garden. They allow you to create a tropical
paradise in your own back yard even when the weather is showing
quite the opposite! They are magnificent plants to grow and are
truly spectacular focal points in any garden. |

Hardy Banana - 'Musa basjoo' |
| A
must have for the exotic garden, Musa basjoo is reputedly the
hardiest of all banana plants and is a favourite in temperate
exotic gardens. The
stem and leaves are tender and the rhizome (root) is frost
hardy; although it is recommended that the roots are covered
with a layer of mulch or compost over winter. |
