| Attracting wildlife into the garden has
two main advantages: |
| 1)
The Environment |
| The
natural habitat of much wildlife is in decline and steps need
to be taken to replace that habitat in individual gardens. You
will need to make particular habitats in your garden if you want to encourage
particular types of wildlife, such as a pond for aquatic creatures. |
 |
| All types of hedges are great for
wildlife too, small birds and animals will make their home there.
Old tree trunks and logs placed on the
ground are ideal hiding places for frogs, hedgehogs and other
animals. Do not use slug pellets and chemicals
in the garden as this will harm beneficial animals. Let a few nettles grow in a corner of
the garden as this provides food for a host of caterpillars that
will later grace your garden as beautiful butterflies. |
| 2)
Pest
Control |
| If
you have things like hoverflies and ladybirds flying around
you will dramatically cut down on aphids. Frogs and birds will
eat slugs, snails and other pests. |
