Shakespeare's Comedies Garden - A Midsummer Night's Dream

Shakespeare's Comedies Garden - A Midsummer Night's Dream
Designer: Jayne Thomas / Contractor: Mark Blunden (MPB Landscapes)

A Midsummer Night's Dream is a play involving three stories that unfold and develop with intervention from the magical powers of the fairies. Four lovers, a band of actors and a fairy story pass through the forest and become entangled by the mischief of Puck. Woodland trees are planted within an Elizabethan-style parterre characteristic of Shakespearean times, which includes some of the trees and plants mentioned by name in the play. Woodland management is vital in order to protect our environment and its biodiversity. The parterre features four closed wing butterflies that symbolise the four lovers. The wings are planted with grasses and herbaceous flowers that move in the wind, creating a floaty, diaphanous feel.
