Bamboo
Designer Paul Cook (Curator) Sponsor Cheshire's Gardens of Distinction Contractor Ness Botanic Gardens

This garden is designed to showcase bamboo as a garden plant and as a plant of economic and historical importance. Some of the plant material has been taken from the extensive collection of bamboo held at Ness Botanic Gardens, and the planting scheme highlights the variation within the genus. The main structure is a bamboo shelter reached via stepping stones through dwarf bamboos. The shelter provides cover for a chair and bamboo artefacts and two sides have a bamboo screen to protect the shelter and provide a backdrop for the greenery. Pupils from Pensby High School for Girls have constructed artwork from bamboo and willow that can be seen around the garden. Run-off water from the shelter is reused in the garden. The plants, hard landscaping materials, stones and bamboo structures will be reused after the show at Ness.
