Designer: Elizabeth Daley Garden Design / Sponsor: William Hare Ltd / Contractor: Priory Carpentry

To embrace tranquillity is to take a step towards healing and restoration. The Christie garden reflects this positive force that can be found in those who seek treatment, their families and those who work to care and cure. Embracing Tranquillity is a private refuge from a busy world. It couples a contemporary use of materials with elements of traditional monastic style. The plants used have medicinal or therapeutic qualities, yew contains taxins used in cancer treatment, and essential oil of lavender is used in palliative care. The limited colour palette creates a relaxing atmosphere. The Lakeland stone sphere forms a solid centre to the garden's symmetry, contrasting with the softness of the planting and the movement of the water that frames the garden. The smaller sculpture represents a shrine, adding to the reflective mood, and the stone arch with its inscription brings a sense of history and mystery. The garden has been designed to stimulate the senses, creating a place for rejuvenation, reflection and relaxation.
